I am an artist, illustrator, published picture-book writer, and teacher from Allendale, NJ.
I create hand-crafted, collage illustrations made from special papers, fabrics, and found objects. My artistic process begins with energetic rough sketches torn from brown paper bags and develops into intricate, colorfully-designed, tactile images. Oil painting figures prominently in my art practice and I often mix media to achieve my visual goals.
I love to do author visits and have created a children’s presentation called From Brown Bag to Picture Book. I also offer adult workshops on Creating Children’s Books and have written a fully-researched thesis on The Art of Collage in Children’s Book Illustration, available for schools and workshops.
I earned my Master of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology, NY in 2014. I have a BA in Studio Art and Elementary Ed from Marymount College, and an MA in Art Education from the College of New Rochelle, NY. I’m a certified teacher and member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Author’s Guild, the Graphic Artists Guild, and Children’s Book Illustrator Group (CBIG).
I enjoy travel, classical music and jazz, museums, and spending time with family and friends. I find inspiration on the rocky coast of Maine, in the collages of Matisse and Romare Bearden, in a deep discussion, and in people who are kind, and who care about the future of the planet.
Thank you for stopping by! Please contact me for details on my art and illustration, my books, or on my author visits. I hope to hear from you soon.
